Let’s consider our lives as a road, we are the travelers of this life journey. We are on a long road trip, on our way to some unknown destination. The only person who knows what is this journey about and how is it going to be is the universal power that controls us, Some call it ‘God’. Some others trust in their destiny that leads to this destination.

Human beings are given all the powers in this world, to talk, to see, to walk, to interact, to interpret, to manipulate, to exaggerate, and many more. But among them, the most superior one is to make decisions in their lives, for themselves and for the sake of others. Now the question is, how well do you do that?

Decision-making is quite easy and can be done in a fraction of a second. I wonder how doctors do that? One wrong decision made in their career can kill many human lives and will put an end to their entire career itself. Yet, how effortlessly they do their daily tasks, without any flaws taking the right decisions at the right time.

Taking decisions is a no brainer. But taking right ones at right time is the crucial part. Here are a few tips on how you do that.

  1. Seek second opinions

Always try to seek second opinions or even collect up to 5 opinions from experts. You will get multiple opinions, negative and positive both. Now do the part of research from your side. Come to a conclusion finally.

2. Take it as it comes

Decision making is a tough job often. It’s not the decisions or your deeds you are scared of. It’s the outcome of what you did or going to do is that makes you worried about. Hence, even if you have set your mind up to do something, chances are there you get a result not even near to what you expected. So it is requisite that we should be willing to face the situation, how much ever hard it is to accept.

3. A fair decision comes from many unfair mistakes

The more the number of mistakes you make, the more powerful your decision-making ability is going to be. If you have not made mistakes in life, you have not gained anything from life. You are more likely to get a fair life with some beautiful decisions made, only if you have gone through certain unfair mistakes, once made.

4. Relevance & self-respect

Decisions are made on these two aspects; how relevant is to make that decision, and if the decision made honours you. Anything you earn in life, never trade it with your self-respect. Know that end of the day, it wouldn’t be worth it. If you are rushing to kneel in front of someone because you need money, a job, fame or be it anything, then you are rushing about making that decision, and that will be so stupid of you to do so.

5. Mindfulness

You make hasty decisions and often regret them later on. I still remember, out of my office email protocols was, never send an email, when you are angry, depressed or anxious. This is true in every aspect of life. If you are someone who makes quick decisions, even if the scenario is critical, please don’t unless it is a life-threatening situation. Being a snail while you make decisions, is also not recommended. A mindful analysis is often required, if you know where, when and how to act, you are definitely on the right track.
